This guide explains the main points UGE verifies in Spain Digital Nomad Visa applications in 2026, including telematic duties, company activity, financial evidence, owner-controlled companies and document requirements.
01 / Overview
What UGE Verifies in a Digital Nomad Visa Application
Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa rules require applicants to show that their work can genuinely be carried out remotely and that the professional relationship, company activity and supporting evidence meet the conditions of the international teleworker route.
For applications handled by the Unidad de Grandes Empresas y Colectivos Estrategicos, the details matter. Your contract, company documents, income evidence and description of your actual duties should all support the same professional relationship.
02 / Requirements
Four Areas Applicants Should Check Carefully
- 01Regular status in Spain: Applicants using the in-Spain residence route must be in Spain regularly when they apply. Keep clear evidence of your lawful stay and entry documentation.
- 02Genuinely telematic duties: The work must be capable of being carried out remotely through computer, telematic and telecommunications systems. Duties that require physical supervision, production management, HR control, sales visits or similar onsite functions can create an eligibility problem.
- 03Consistent financial evidence: Payslips or invoices and bank evidence should correspond with each other and clearly demonstrate the income generated by the qualifying employment or professional relationship.
- 04Owner-controlled companies: If you own or effectively control the foreign company you work through, UGE asks for additional company evidence, including proof of ownership or control, the latest corporate tax return, evidence of productive investment and information on the company’s employee history.
03 / Evidence
Document Consistency, Legalisation and Translation
Public documents issued abroad must normally be properly legalised or apostilled when required. Foreign public documents that are not in Spanish must also meet the applicable translation requirements.
Practical Tip
Make the File Easy to Verify
Check that names, dates, company details, contract terms, invoices, payslips and bank movements are consistent across the application. UGE may request additional documentation where the evidence submitted is not sufficient to prove a requirement.
For income evidence, current UGE guidance specifically asks for bank documentation showing receipt of the income connected to the employment or professional relationship and for those movements to correspond with the supporting invoices or payslips.
04 / Ongoing compliance
Keep the Qualifying Conditions in Place
The residence authorization is not simply about meeting the requirements on the day you apply. Changes affecting the conditions of the authorization may need to be communicated to UGE during its validity.
When renewal becomes due, the law allows renewal for two-year periods provided the conditions that originally generated the right to the authorization continue to be met. Keeping your professional relationship, income evidence, tax position and Social Security position well documented makes that later review easier.
05 / Practical next step
Review the Evidence Before Filing
Before submitting a Spain Digital Nomad Visa application, review the file as a single package rather than as a collection of separate documents. The employment or professional relationship, company activity, remote duties and financial evidence should all support the same factual picture.
